INDIAN KNOWLEDGE SYSTEM × CYBERSECURITY

Ancient Knowledge, Modern Security

Explore how traditional Indian numerical knowledge can inspire a modern approach to creating memorable and complex passwords.

TWO TRADITIONS

The Knowledge Systems

They may both produce numbers, but their logic is completely different.

Kaṭapayādi

कटपयादि

Kaṭapayādi is a traditional Indian system in which numbers can be represented using letters or syllables. Specific consonant groups are associated with digits.

WORD → LETTERS → DIGITS

Example: KAMALA

K → 1   |   M → 5   |   L → 3
Number representation 351

In the traditional convention, the resulting digits are commonly read in reverse order for numerical interpretation. This website demonstrates the mapping visually.

Bhūta Saṅkhyā

भूत संख्या

Bhūta Saṅkhyā represents numbers using familiar objects, ideas or concepts associated with a particular quantity.

CONCEPT → ASSOCIATION → DIGIT

Example

👁 Eyes 2
🌙 Moon 1
🌊 Oceans 4
Number representation 214

The association depends on the concept being used. Different historical contexts can contain different number-word associations.

MODERN APPLICATION

Ancient Logic. Modern Cybersecurity.

The project demonstrates a bridge between Indian Knowledge Systems and information technology. Meaningful words or concepts are converted into numerical patterns and then combined with modern password features such as symbols, mixed case and randomization.
